lego me

o fortuna

After a lifetime of singing, I can't believe that it took this long to do Carmina Burana. I've seen it in performance a few times and enjoyed it, but singing it is another level altogether. It's not a "technical" piece: the harmonies and rhythms are fairly straightforward. But damn is it a mouthful: there's an entire movement in which the tenors and basses are singing one latin word on each fast eighth note. It's like trying to sing a foreign-language tongue twister.

This is a piece I'd like to put some effort into learning for real, instead of just struggling through at a Masterworks Chorale sing. It's fun, upbeat, and demands energy. Also, it has a song about a duck.
